My Design Journey
The first tool I ever interacted with that was close to design was the Windows Paint tool. I was 10 years old back then. When I joined university, I wrote my first line of code in C++. Soon after I started being involved in building small projects as part of my coursework. A year later I got into web development and started building web applications. However, I felt that there was something still missing. I would occasionally ask myself whether my applications had an impact. My friend introduced me to UI/UX design by inviting me to attend a design workshop that she was hosting. The workshop gave me an idea of the whole importance of coming up with Human-Centered solutions.
I decided to dive into this field seriously by applying for the HNG internship. It was an eye-opening experience because it enabled me to build a strong foundation by being introduced to the basics in design and exposing me to design tools such as Figma. The internship also gave me a design community where we have been learning and growing together. There is a popular quote that says “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”. My journey has had a lot of ups and downs however with the help of my design mentors and peers I am motivated to keep on learning. I have come to understand that failure is part of the learning process.
Learning is an endless journey and that is why I have joined the WeJapa internship program. I would like to interact with like-minded individuals from different backgrounds and share our experiences.
